Today, June 26th, 2017, is the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. This week, for the next 7 days, I am going to post something about HP (Get it, because there are 7 books and 7 days in a week). Today it is a tribute to the first book.
Twenty years ago we were introduced to the wonderful world of Hogwarts, the terrifying face of Voldemort, and the wisdom of Albus Dumbledore. We learned about friendship, hard work, perseverance, and bravery. We were given a house to be loyal to and defend with all our hearts. We were shown that it really does get better, especially if you live in a cupboard under the stairs.
People my age (mid-Twenties) have this bond connecting all of us: The Bond of Harry Potter.
Together we were sorted into our respective houses, fought a troll, explored the castle, dreamed of what we would see in the Mirror of Erised, and collectively cried when we turned 11 and did not get a Hogwarts letter from an owl.
But most importantly, we gained a community. A community of people with similar values, morals, and views on friendship. We anticipated the release of each book, movie, spin-off, and event.
This series, specifically the first book, has helped shape me into the person I am today. I am so thankful for J.K. Rowling and all that she has written and this world she has created.
Thank you for giving me the best “friend pick-up line” ever: What house are you in?
So, what house are you in?
